The flower shop has been in the same location since 1982, but it was founded by Leo and Alice Waters in 1922, who opened it as a corner grocery store. In 1950, their son Arthur bought out his parents’ stake in the business and changed its focus to flowers and plants instead. Five years later on Thanksgiving Day 1955, Arthur’s daughter Janet married Bruce Miller; she then took over Flower Lake Garden following her father’s death nine years later on March 5th 1992 until her passing on March 5th 2013 at age 92 (she died five days before her 93rd birthday). Her husband Bruce continued operating Flower Lake Garden until retiring 10 years later at age 88 — however he still helps out behind-the-scenes every chance he gets!
