Funding for a Greener Future
The Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, has made a significant investment in the sensory garden in St Caradog Ward at Withybush Hospital. The charity has funded more than £1,000 worth of gardening items, including gardening tools, garden planters, and a greenhouse.
Item | Value |
---|---|
Gardening Tools | £200 |
Garden Planters | £300 |
Greenhouse | £500 |
Jasmine Pouton, occupational therapist, is delighted with the new additions to the sensory garden. “We are very grateful that charitable funds have enabled us to purchase these items for St Caradog Ward,” she said. “Green spaces can provide many benefits to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.”
The Benefits of Green Spaces
- Provide a sense of calm and relaxation
- Improve focus and attention
- Reduce negative thoughts and emotions
- Enable individuals to engage in mindfulness practices
- Support skills development, such as concentration, process skills, and motor skills
- Facilitate communication and interaction with others
- Positively impact staff well-being and job satisfaction
For Jasmine, the sensory garden will be a valuable resource for her team. “The activities the garden will provide will allow us to explore skills, concentration, process skills, motor skills, and communication and interaction with others,” she explained. “The garden will also impact positively on our staff’s well-being, which is important to us to be able to have good job satisfaction and relax and wind down during lunch breaks.”
Creating a Green Oasis
The sensory garden will be a peaceful and calming environment, designed to promote relaxation and well-being. The garden will be used as a green space where staff can have supervision, staff training, and communicate their worries or concerns in a comfortable and supportive environment.
As Jasmine noted, “The garden will be able to be used as a green space where staff can have supervision, staff training, and communicate their worries or concerns in a comforting environment.”
