Maria Austin said that the fire started in the Lockport, New York, garage of her family’s home.

She claims that the thieves stole over $10,000 worth of items. The incident occurred on December 20, 2022, at a home in the 100 block of West 10th Street in the city of New York. The homeowner, Christine Austin, was away on a trip. While she was away, her home was burglarized.

The family is specifically looking to support Christine in collecting holiday items and decor, “to help restore some of the joy she brings to others every year.” Maria said the family has also created a GoFundMe, as insurance is only paying a fraction of what is needed to rebuild. According to the GoFundMe, funds would be used to replace what was lost, including Christmas and holiday decorations, cooking/grilling supplies and gardening tools. The family also has a PO box at the New Lenox Post Office, and could arrange pick-up at the Lockport Fire Station for those who want to make physical donations. As of Wednesday, the GoFundMe has raised $2,960.
