It’s a quiet, dedicated space for patrons to borrow tools for a variety of projects. The Tool Lending Library is a unique initiative that aims to empower individuals and families to tackle home improvement projects, DIY projects, and other tasks that require tools. It’s a valuable resource for those who may not have the financial means to purchase their own tools or lack the space to store them.
The program is expected to expand the lending library’s services and offerings, bringing new opportunities for residents. The expansion will involve the addition of new books, technology, and programs. This will not only benefit the residents of Johnstown but also serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the area. The expansion is expected to create a significant number of jobs.
“I think that’s really great because we came in today for a pressure washer, and to buy one’s like 300 something dollars. I don’t have to spend that money, which I really need. So it really helps out a whole lot to come in and just, borrow a tool,” John Hiles, who plans to use the program, said. There are over 40 tools to choose from. The program is partially funded by grants from the Rotary Club of Altoona and the GFWC Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club. The library said they don’t see the program as competition for other businesses, but rather as a sustainability factor.
They may think they need a specific tool for a particular task. But, the reality is that most people don’t need a lot of tools. In fact, a minimalist approach to tool ownership can be incredibly beneficial.
