Montreal Mosaiculture Festival (1 of 6): For the world's first-ever competition of "mosaiculture"—carpet-bedding of annuals in three as well as two dimensions—Louis was asked by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society to design the display that will represent Boston. The competition was held in Montreal, on a couple of islands in the river by Old Town. This was that year's "entry entry", at the front of the whole show: The Chinese team created a staggeringly large and detailed dragon, whose tail threads three huge rings to make the giant 2000, the Summer of the show. A crew of several dozen gardeners from China worked for weeks planting many thousands of tiny colorful annuals inch by inch. Incredible!
