Swanhurst (1 of 4): For a June designer showhouse, Louis took over the back lawn of a Newport mansion. Hand-carved granite edging and some bluestone created a square parterre. All through the previous Winter, Louis had trained a single licorice plant, Helichrysum petiolare, up a tripod to create the fluffy gray obelisk. It had a ruff of dark-leaved coleus. Hostas, ornamental onions, and a quartet of Norway maples trained into standards help fill out the beds.
