For a client who requested a pink-friendly palette, Louis chose spirea, purple smoke bushes, and in the center, a sensational variegated Tree Angelica, Aralia elata 'Variegata'. This location could hardly be sunnier, nor—with open ocean two hundred feet to the right—more exposed. And yet the aralia is just as happy here as it is in the shady, sweltering, still humidity of the gardens in the "Italian Revival" gallery.
